Be'er Sheva is considered one of the largest and oldest cities in historic Palestine. It is the ninth city in terms of population and the second-largest city in the southern region, earning it the title 'Capital of the Negev.' The city serves as the administrative and commercial center for this region, extending south to the city of Eilat. It is also the third-largest city in terms of area in the country.
